Joyce Sherwin’s colourful art glass vessels utilize the ancient techniques of fused glass. Working in her home studio, glass is cut, composed in layers and melted together in the kiln. Often Joyce creates bricks of glass, cuts them into slices with a diamond saw, and incorporates the slices into a piece to create various effects in terms of colour mixing and texture. Crushed glass, sliced glass, glass rods, pot melts, as well as hundreds of small cut pieces of glass can form the foundation of a piece. Typically one piece requires several firings in the kiln starting with melting the bricks, then layering and melting the foundation of the piece, followed by the final slump. In the end, you have an original bowl, platter, free-standing art piece, necklace or another interesting vessel.
Add a light, and each piece becomes the bright focal point in any room. Much like the melting of a candle, the shape is a unique element of each piece. Glass art vessels are made to be displayed as an art piece and come to life under a light. Although the glass is completely safe for use the pieces are intended for display as art.
Please contact the artist to commission a piece or check out our Etsy store. Vessel prices typically range from $90 to $160 depending on the piece.
